Out From The Inbox
Seems to have been a productive week for music and the creation thereof, as not only did the CD store have a bunch of new releases but the inbox was quite active. So, we press on...

Karmadoza has proven to be extremely popular with almost 100 downloads in 3 days. With gracious permission from Steph, we offer another track from the album:

From Leaf To Feather has released their debut CD, Themes on an Imaginary Winter. The Los Angeles based quartet features Albert Santiago (bass), Ramiro Saucedo (drums), Steven Gonzalez (electric piano & electronics), and Lauri Kranz (vocals). Their song Nightsun, also on this record, was originally heard on the record ArtDontSleep presents: From LA With Love. Extremely mellow and soothing, just right for a Friday night after a buzz saw of a week.

Mike Kane (drums), Andrew Yearick (vox, guitar), Nick Chupein (bass, synthesizer, vox) and Glenn Behr (guitar) are the straws in an Indie-rock drink known as Athens, a Chicago-bsed band mixing rock, folk, Latin, soul, and blues to create a very unique and upbeat sound. And it doesn't take long to realize their musical diversity-you can hear much of it in the first 30 seconds of the posted Dreams, eternity, etc.

Always cool to hear a label signing a hard-rocking band. Fixer has signed with Riker Hill Records. The band includes singer Evan R. Saffer, guitarist Tommy Zamp, bassist J Brown, and drummer Rev Swank. Even cooler: the band is on tour, and will be performing right up the road at Jack Rabbits on February 13. Count us there.

I actually had never heard of them until their label sent me an email; maybe I should have heard of them, but hadn't. That might make me dense :D

Another overhyped bar band with little remaining discernible talent, and no remaining dignity. This was a band that had it all -- talent, looks, fame, notoriety -- and threw it all away to keep a pipe dream alive and to play "rock star" before a clearly-clueless, inbred, redneck Midwestern crowd in various dive bars. Lead singer Evan Saffer was sexy and talented once upon a time, but now, all he knows how to do is pose with bloodshot eyes and a beer bloat. One minute, he's Jim Morrison, then he's Axl Rose, then he's Chris Robinson, then Chris Cornell, and now he wants the world to believe that he's SAH GAWTH and Marilyn Manson. Maybe if he stopped trying to be a second rate version of everyone else, and instead was a first rate version of HIMSELF, he might have a chance. And the talentless hack wannabe "guitarist" known as Tommy Zamp -- whose previous "success" involved being the final nail in More's coffin -- needs to get a chronic yeast infection. He can try to steal Wilson Lihn's thunder all he wants -- he can pose the way Wilson used to pose, he can feebly attempt to play the guitar the way Wilson did, hell, he can even post the reviews meant for WILSON on HIS MySpace page -- but the fact remains, Tommy Zamp isn't worthy of SNIFFING Wilson Lihn's leather pants, let alone trying to fill them.
