Music To Watch It Rain By

Tropical PITA Fay is just sitting offshore with no direction in mind and has dumped tons of grief on the Space Coast. Some parts of Melbourne have 26" inches of rain to deal with, and the Cape has had 21". Here at home we are expecting about 12", so while we wait for whatever comes to actually come we figure why not share some music some nice folks have sent us.

The awesome, sultry vocals your hear on the track Why Do We Stop belong to Holly Muñoz, who along with drummer Kyle Larson and bassist Justin Hartke are the Minneapolis-based indie rock band Aviette. The band has recently released their second album, The Way We Met, following up their 2006 release Until We Hear From Dave. The new album features a series of songs about relationships and loss, and this sound is so good you'll likely be hearing much more from this band in the future. We'll also be featuring them in a blog post soon. Excellent stuff.

The Shondes, a Brooklyn, NY quartet taking its name from the Yiddish word for ”shame” or ”disgrace” earned considerable praise (contrary to the group’s self-deprecating moniker) this year for its debut album, The Red Sea. The Shondes’ dramatic rock has been compared to Sleater-Kinney, Patti Smith and Rasputina, due to the group’s clever merging of classical music, traditional Jewish folk and punk rock into a compelling whole. The Shondes are Temim Fruchter (drums/vocals), Louisa Solomon (bass/vocals), Ian Brannigan (guitar) and Elijah Oberman (violin/vocals). Another awesome sounding band, featuring the excellent guitar of Brannigan and strong vocals of Solomon.

Hey Chris,

I meant to touch base with you sooner to see how you are doing. Down this way, we got a much lighter dose than y'all, and that was bad enough. Hoping that you personally have managed to stay high and dry.

Thirty years ago I was living in an area of FL that received 16 inches of rain in 24 hours. I remember that it was impossible to tell the difference between the canals and the streets. And, there was a major issue with water rats and snakes.

Stay safe and dry!

Hi Miss P.,

It's a mess here, we got about 12" at home. Did go back to work today and areas surrounding the Cape are dealing with about 2 FEET of water. This wasn't a particularly strong storm, just so slow that it dumped tons of rain. It's still here at the house, but it's a bit better. Just being driven nuts by the weather radio as the tornado warnings are flying.

Thanks for the good karma, glad you didn't have to deal with it too much where you're at.

Wow, just looking at some pics of Florida and Fay's left a fair bit of a mess, noticed not just flooding but subsidence on roads and gardens.

Hope not too much damage was done to your home Chris.

Nah, we're in good shape Dave. Saw some fish swimming down the highway Friday, but other than that, things are hunky-dorey. Water has begun to recede, so that's a good thing.
