I keep telling myself it's not really the schedule from hell, it only seems that way. But I love what I do and we'll get that ship in the air soon so it's all good. We've got so much great music to share, not only from the usual e- and snail-mail routes this week but from some friends in faraway places. This is going to be a rather substantial weekend inbox as we didn't have one last weekend, so I'll keep the comments to a minimum and let the music play for itself.• • • •
A couple months ago, we posted about the soon-to-be-released LP by San Francisco's Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound, my new favorite psychedelic sound masters. The release date is still April 7th, but we've got another track to share because...well, because you just really need to hear the incredible music this band makes. The LP is called When Sweet Sleep Returned, we've been able to sample the entire collection of tracks and it...is...just...fantastic.mp3:

The band is LoveLikeFire and the voice belongs to Ann Yu. Their new full-length, Tear Ourselves Away, will be released soon via Heist or Hit Records but you can sample their energetic sound and Ann's haunting vocals courtesy of Scruffy Bird.LoveLikeFire • mp3:

Portland's Viva Voce's (Italian for "word of mouth") next LP, Rose City, is due for release in May, but you don't have to wait until then to get an idea of what's coming as we've got Devotion for you. Since the 2006 release of their debut Get Yr Blood Sucked Out, the duo have toured almost non-stop, both as headliners and supporting fellow Portlanders The Shins in the US and abroad. And as has become a trademark of the band, Anita Robinson's guitar & vocals and Kevin Robinson's drums sound as potent as ever.Viva Voce • mp3:

This isn't who you think it is. It's Australian Garage Band The Vines play straight-forward, no frills rock & roll on Melodia, their fourth full-length which comes out March 24th. Singer and guitarist Craig Nicholls snarls and scowls his way through tracks like Get Out, like only a man who’s known the crowd-fueled, fist-pumping energy of a packed concert hall can. These are songs that ignite, full of the unabashedly snotty garage-rock-meets-post-grunge glory that sent the Vines’ stunning debut, Highly Evolved, rocketing up the charts. The Vines • mp3:

Fresh off their self-titled debut release, Honey Claws has a new 4-track EP out called Healer. Each of the tracks has a different vibe and showcases Honey Claws' ability to straddle the lines of multiple musical genres while offering a complicated, yet logical musical progression. To further their efforts, Honey Claws enlisted the help of Bill Racine (Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips) to mix the EP. The band will also be busy at SXSW, appearing in 6 shows.Honey Claws • mp3:

Alligators take influence from many of the greats and hints of Radiohead, The Beach Boys, and The Zombies can be heard in their songs. While they don’t stick with one narrow style of music, their sound can be described as very creative, high-energy, precise pop laced with beautiful harmonies and clever arrangements. Each element of the band is interesting; from the tight pulses that the bass and drums provide, to the guitar-synthesizer relationship during the always-stylish vocal melodies. Alligators have recently locally released a full-length album titled Piggy & Cups. It was recorded at Jason McGerr’s (Death Cab For Cutie) Two Sticks Audio in Seattle and in the comfort of Alligators’ own home. Alligators drummer Kit Arper started up Applehouse Records to nationally release Piggy & Cups on April 7th.Alligators • mp3:

HURT's new album, Goodbye to the Machine, is out for release on April 7th and the band has redefined their sound. Think Porcupine Tree meets Circa Survive and spawns Hey Rosetta!'s little brother. Jeezus, I can't believe I just did one of those "meets and spawns" things but you get the idea. Singer J. Loren's vocals are powerful and edgy, and Evan Johns(drums), Josh Ansley(bass) and Paul Spatola(guitar) comprise a band that isn't afraid to take a chance by changing direction with their music. Rosemary’s Garden will digitally release La musique du Jardin on March 31st. Led by Michael-Louis de Terre, Rosemary’s Garden is a Hollywood-based alternative acoustic folk band. Discovered by producer Brian Dobbs (Bon Jovi, Metallica) while playing a show in Hollywood, Ca. Michael-Louis signed a production deal with Dobbs to record a full-length CD. A total of fourteen tracks were completed shortly after giving La musique du Jardin and Rosemary's Garden its first signs of life. Acoustic guitars, pianos, upright bass played with a bow, and de Terre’s powerful voice are the backbone of Rosemary’s Garden’s eclectic and dynamic sound. A powerhouse combination of influences including classic rock & roll, alternative, pop, and a bit-of folk are what bring this release to fruition.Rosemary's Garden • mp3:
