Jeez, when you have a ton of music sent to you by some very talented people, where do you start? Seems these fine folks just want you to hear their music and really don't care about anyone having legal issues with it. That's not only pretty cool but a big relief, because if this blog has to go from music to cooking or gardening I'm in deep shit.• • • •
First up is a band called Basement Band. A couple of buddies-Jeff Malinowski (guitar, vocals) and John Durgee (drums, vocals)-loaded up and moved to Brooklyn where they played their excellent country folk rock all over town and ended up in a Woodstock studio putting it all together they way they wanted it to sound. Now six musicians strong, with the luscious vocals of Amal Bouhabib, bassist James Preston, Thomas Eaton's guitar and Bryan Trenis' organ, Basement Band's highly acclaimed debut album Until The Evening Came is only a prelude of the wonderful balladry and stomping country rock to come from this band. And in some of the harmonies, they sound a bit like the Eagles. Or maybe the Eagles sound a bit like them!mp3:

We received a ton of hits on our previous post of Greycoats Setting Fire To The Great Unknown, one of the best album releases of 2008. Trust me, the hits were a result of great music, not my writing. We are pleased to able to share another track from that terrific LP. If you aren't familiar with this band, their sound is a bit reminiscent(to me, anyway) of U2 and have some of the best four-part harmonies you'll ever hear.mp3:

The Gary’s origins are on the Comal River, July 2008. Paul Warner paddled over to Dave Norwood and suggested they start a band called The Gary. Dave saw no reason why they shouldn't play in a band called The Gary, and so it began. It should be noted that both were several beers into their river journey, and it seemed like a good idea at the time. The beer-goggle phenomenon applies to band names, as well. A week or two later, Trey Pool suggested he come and play some guitar. The band was complete. Songs were written and the band checked into East Austin’s infamous Hot Tracks recording studio in November to record the seven-song Chub EP. They began playing shows with bands such as DD/MM/YYYY, Medications, Maserati, and Grant Hart of Husker Du. The band began exchanging prose and verse about a fictive stoner ne’er-do-well named Gary, which will soon be made available in chapbook format. Suddenly, being called The Gary didn’t seem like such a bad thing, after all.mp3:

San Francisco Indie-rockers have some music to coat your ears, the single Ghost Ship which is a more downtempo style of their music but features some cool jazz horns and accordions, and The Proximity of Pipes featuring a finish that totally deviates in style from the beginning. Two songs that show how diversified the music of a band can be and are from their recent release Uneasy Truce at the Watering Hole. The band also has a new video for the song Weapon from the album. Thanks Jonathan, and don't sweat that Hannah Montana thing!mp3:

Photons will be releasing the Glory! EP on May 12th via Insound and Digitally Nationally on June 23rd, and we've got a single from it to share with you. Their self-titled debut album from 2008 was extremely popular, and Glory! sounds as if it will be too. Featuring Arcade Fire-like lush orchestration, the 8-piece Photons has been tagged as a band to watch in 2009 by international critics and bloggers alike. Glory! is the first of three planned 2009 releases, and each CD packaged with an issue of the new "We Are Photons" comic book series written and drawn by bandleader Calvin Liu(Who Slosha? Me Slosha--love it!).mp3:
