Audio Blood Media artists will be out in force-like numbers at this year's North by Northeast Festival. Fox Jaws, Whale Tooth, the lovingly-spastic Black Hat Brigade and Oh No Forest Fires are just a few of the 13 artists to take the stage and wreak havoc in some of Toronto's finest nightspots. Audio Blood has made available a sampler of tracks from all of the artists which you can find here. We'll oblige you with a couple of great sample tracks, but grab the sampler.

Your psyche haze track of the week comes courtesy Zechs Marquise, an El Paso, Texas, band featuring Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez who happens to be the brother of Mars Volta's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Along with another-brother Manfred Rodriguez-Lopez, Marcos Smith and Matt Wilkson, Zechs Marquise' album Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare is an awesome collection of what prog-rock done right should sound like and how your senses should react when hearing it. The new album is officially out August 25th, however name-your-price digital downloads are available here.

Something unconventional but really cool: string metal. Anton Patzner(violin), Lewis Patzner(Cello) and Jon Bush(drums) are Oakland's Judgement Day and feature a gritty classical sound that is gaining loyal fans by the day. Humble beginning as a two-piece street-corner act became a complete metal band with the addition of drummer Bush. The band will release Out of the Abyss: Live on Tape on July 21st, a 7” which will come with a digital download of the two songs as well as a bonus track and an insert of the sheet music for Etude, a 3-minute live take of Lewis on cello. The more I listen to this, the more I like it. I think you will too.

Another band featuring some cool cellos is Brooklyn's Skidmore Fountain. But don't get the idea that's all this band plays as they come equipped with all kinds of strings, guitars and lush orchestrations that make their new release, Cloudless Blue as much of an event to experience as an album to listen to. Cloudless Blue was released last month and if you like ELO and the Flaming Lips, Skidmore Fountain is for you.

Her name is Madigan Shive, she performs as Bonfire Madigan and does magical things with...a cello(noticing a trend here?). Her Lady Saves EP is an almost-primal-sounding romp through a genre forest of classical, punk, avant and folk. Madigan's band includes contrabassist Ashley Adams, drummer Matt Lucich and vocalist Shelley Doty and this is another unique sound that you'll find yourself liking more with each listen. Shive is currently finishing her sixth full-length album due out later this year.

Recorded in an old barn in the middle of Luray, VA, Brooklyn's Donny Hue and the Colors upcoming release, Letter from New Virginiais a majestic landscape of harmonica-laced hoe down folk. The album is a true gem featuring the whimsical nature of the band in a whole new light, from the dark psych folk in “Lady Tomcat and the Turning Trees” to the Shins like beauty of “That Whistling in my Ears” the band has further developed their sound which has been described as “the closest to magical (sur)realism this city has to offer... a layered, wonderfully complex sound that is two parts symphonic chamber pop, one part folkloric with a sprinkling of nursery rhymes in it.” (BYT). The band is releasing a b-side a week until the album's official release date of June 23rd.
