Introducing Apteka
One of the coolest things about writing this blog is when a band submits some music for review-a band I probably would have never heard of otherwise-and it turns out to be some of the best music I've heard. The latest to thrust that upon me is Chicago's Apteka, a four-piece rock/psychedelic band that sent over a copy of their latest body of work, the Tour EP. Their MySpace page features one of the longest list of influences I've ever seen. If you check out the list you can hear many of them in the music they play with Smashing Pumpkins-esque sounds being the most prominent(in my opinion, anyway), but also offering 60's haze morphing into 90's shoegaze. I'll almost any type of music here but music like this serves to confirm I'm a rocker first. A bunch of co-workers like to see what I'll bring in to share when we get rare minute or two of a break, and Apteka's music will be on Monday's menu. The band has hopes of making it down to Florida sometime and I'm hoping it's soon. The band is currently unsigned to any label, which after hearing their music is almost a crime. I suspect that will change soon; at least I hope it does. If this music doesn't do it for you, someone needs to check you for a pulse. Highly recommended.
