The Redefining of Coffinberry
If you remember the early days of Cleveland's Coffinberry, you'll likely remember them as the post-punk aficionados of 2006's God Dam Dogs. Usually if a band enjoys success with a particular clique a redefining of your music might end up in disaster. But Coffinberry had the cohones to take the chance and the elements to make it work, which they've accomplished on their June 30th release of their self-titled LP. Featuring ambitious lyrics, more acoustic guitars and pianos and a Midwest gothic roughness, Coffinberry has hit on something that was only hinted at on God Dam Dogs. It was an ambitious step for the band, but it's likely to pay off in a big way. One of the best underground indie bands out there...highly recommended.
