Anthony D’Amato is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from New Jersey, and his new album Shades of the Prison House has just been released. Featuring a wonderfully unique folk-bluegrass feel and the excellent fiddle of Brittany Haas of Crooked Still. Already drawing high praise from artists such as Pete Yorn and receiving considerable airplay in his home state of New York, Anthony's music draws on a diverse range of artists from Leonard Cohen and Jack Kerouac to Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley. He played most of the other instruments himself and record his music in a dorm room. His singer-songwriter skills have a days-gone-by-feel while exploring today's stories, and he doesn't just sound like he's singing. He sounds like he's singing to you. His music is timeless and highly recommended.

The uniquely-named artist One In A Googolplex is a German singer/songwriter. You might recognize his name from a line in the movie Back To The Future III. His music ranges from acoustic to electro-pop. He began writing his songs with a ukulele and a cheap guitar. His debut full-length album Hands was two years in the making and his new album Hands received the same meticulous care in its creation. If you own a telescope, this is perfect to have playing on your iPod while searching the heavens for all the answers. Borrowing a line from the artist, OIAG’s songs are aurorae for your ears.

Seattle's Virgin of the Birds also has a new five-track EP out. Every Rival features the nocturnal bliss of Jon Rooney and some musicians that help out in his live shows. You might recognize Rooney from his work with Morning Spy, an indie-pop/rock band he formed several years ago and has received considerable attention since their debut album dropped in 2004. Every Rival will be the first of a series of download-only EP's available through the band's label, Abandoned Love Records.

Three-man Austin band porterdavis will release a new CD on September 1st. Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Dan Barrett, drummer/percussionist/vocalist Mike Meadows and vocalist Simon Wallace also on harmonica, porterdavis offers a wonderful Americana blues sound, reaching back to the roots of a style of music becoming increasingly rare. The band also utilizes unique self-styled instruments in the making of their sound, including signature drums, harps and percussion instruments. If you like the music of JJ Grey & Mofro, you're sure to like porterdavis. Without a doubt, a band to keep an ear out for.

We still have a considerable amount of music we will be trying to get caught up on over the next week or two. If you are a regular visitor here you know it's just a case of a busy work schedule, but hopefully I'll be able to devote a little more time than usual here soon in attempts to get all the good music up and shared. I do want to thanks all the bands/ labels and agnets for their extreme patience. Also, since it's summer and in this household means reorganizing the whole place, we'll likely have another giveaway as I know we've got tons of duplicate CD's and always enjoy having some wacky contest to give them away, so watch for that soon. As always, thanks for spending some of your day here.
