Vandaveer will release a new album, Divide & Conquer, on August 25th. If you aren't familiar with this band, their music is the the work of Kentuckian Mark Charles Heidinger and features a lo-fi, blues new folk tinge that weaves tales of love and despair. It's very well done and well worth a listen. The band will also tour in support of the new album.

We recently featured Kevin Hearn & Thin Buckle's new album Havana Winter, and we've got another track to share from the release. Entitled Coma, the song was inspired by Charles Clover's The End of the Line, a startling book about how overfishing is affecting the oceans. That's Lou Reed's blistering guitar at the end of the song.

Los Angeles’ The Willowz new album, Everyone, is a perfect example of their energetic vintage inspired new wave sound. While staying true to their no-strings-attached soul infused garage rock sound, the band has incorporated stronger crafted pop hooks than ever before. Their music has earned high praise in the past, with nominations for L.A. Weekly’s Rock Band of the Year, and making Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of the Year for their 2007 record, Chautauqua.

Duke & the King is the new project from Simone Felice of the Felice Brothers and Robert "Chicken" Burke (George Clinton). It's loping, sun-faded melodic pop with sweet touches of country, gospel, and folk. The band is named for two Huck Finn characters and the new album, titled Nothing Gold Can Stay, was recorded in the Catskill Mountains. They will also tour in support of the new album. Release date is August 4th; secluded front-porch not included.

California's Brightmillion has released their debut EP Start A New Day. The music is the workings of Dan Holman, and he'd be pleased to learn his work is being compared in sound to a mix of My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and even some Beach Boys. He's got a great music pedigree, being a former member of bands Tinpaco and the Bonnie Stai. Currently, his time is spent mostly on his work with Brightmillion, oh, and some vegetable farming. Brightmillion also broadcasts a live web cast every Tuesday night @ 9pm Pacific from their east L.A., with the show consisting of live band performances, acoustic performances and chats with fans. If so inclined, tune in at ustream.tv/brightmillion.

Jesse Payne's new album Nesting will be released on August 15th. Jesse's music is as much sculpted as it is written, weaving song from Polaroids in his mind and scenery from his eyes. He has assembled an excellent group of musicians that together produce "haunting melodies breathed across nontraditional instrumentation and military rhythm of a mathematical mind". Simply excellent...headphones required for proper reception.
